Your baby's safety is your responsibility! When you purchase a Birthhands Baby Wrap, you agree that you are taking responsibility for the well being of your baby and that you will not hold Birthhands Maternity Services, or Tara Tilroe, responsible for any injury or accident stemming from the use or misuse of the Birthhands Baby Wrap. The cautions and instructions are guidelines only, and cannot replace your own carefulness. When learning to tie and carry your baby for the first few times, make sure you have a helper to watch that you are doing everything correctly. It is important to practice bending over (keep one hand on your baby), going through doors (watch out for the head) and getting baby in and out of the carrier. Most reported accidents involving carriers stem from the wearer tripping and falling, so it's important to develop the reflex of holding and protecting your baby when something unexpected happens. Remember, be guided by your common sense and your baby's cues.
Some things to watch for:
- Check the knot frequently to make sure they are tied properly and securely.
- Inspect the wrap for any signs of stress or damage before use.
- Only use the wrap as instructed, and ensure that baby is placed in correctly.
- Don't stand near an open fire, cook with heat, or handle hot liquids while wearing your baby, and remember that older babies will likely try to grab anything within their reach.
- Keep the tail of the wrap short and out of harm's way - if it is too long, it can get caught.
- Do not use your carrier in circumstances that are unsafe or could become unsafe, for example, while driving in a vehicle, playing sports or cycling.
- Be aware of obstacles and doorways, and make sure you support baby when making quick movements or when bending.
- Make sure there is always sufficient ventilation for baby.
It is not possible to cover every situation that could cause an accident and you alone are responsible for your baby's safety. If you are uncomfortable, or your baby is extremely fussy, trust your instincts and listen to your baby. There is nothing wrong with being cautious and vigilant when it comes to protecting your precious little one!
